As an unknown film-maker with only a handful of followers and releasing a sci-fi drama, I always knew that gaining an audience would be difficult.
Saying that, I believe Apocalypse is more than worth the two minutes a day it takes to watch an episode. True, there are no renditions of ‘Let it Go’ and it’s not a comedy, but it is well-written, thought-provoking and certainly original.
As the series comes to a close, I’ve been looking back at some of the attention Apocalypse has gained.
In its first week, former Doctor Who writer Chris H. Bidmead commented on Twitter about the series “Grim, but lots of fun. Very nicely done.” As an avid Doctor Who fan, this was a real coup.
The following week, I was interviewed by arts magazine, Polari. This was an extensive interview about Apocalypse and was featured on their site a few days later. You can read it here.
I have also received countless emails, messages and comments from friends and family but also from people I don’t know. My relatively new YouTube channel has gained subscribers and over four-thousand views in the past month… but Apocalypse still hasn’t yet gone viral.
I suppose that with the subject matter and the genre, it will take a while for it to pick up momentum. I have found the weekly recap episodes to be most popular as the viewer can see the past week in one sitting.
I made this with no budget but it has taken three months of my life to produce it. I am very proud of how Apocalypse has turned out and for the people who have been following it, the feedback is extremely positive. Will it go viral? I do hope so.
The series ends on Tuesday September 30 and will complete its 30 day run. The final recap episode will also be released on the same day.
Here are the recap episodes so far:
Many thanks to everyone who has worked on, supported and helped Apocalypse happen. Please continuing sharing and help gain a wider audience.
