DRAGGING YOUR HEELS

Can a builder become a drag queen?

This funny and uplifting queer play features songs, sequins and sparkle!

Dragging Your Heels is a brand new, musical comedy premiering in London. Ben (Terry Geo) is newly divorced and back in his home town. Feeling like life is closing in on him, he wants to be a stand-up comedian but suffers from crippling stage fright. With the help of his best friend, Callum and drag queen, Tammy Scowls (Dolly Diamond) they show him there could be another way to fulfil his dreams.

Dragging Your Heels is written by and starring Terry Geo as Ben Sentosa. We are also incredibly honoured and excited for Australian star of stage and screen Dolly Diamond to be joining the cast as Tammy Scowls – a drag queen with a fierce tongue and a warm heart.

Will Stead has composed five fantastic original songs for the show and holding the reins is award-winner director, Paul T. Davies.

Terry Geo wrote and directed his first play aged 11. In 2017, Terry wrote and directed an award-nominated musical for the London stage. Blink of an Eye was the precursor to Blink, his one-man gay rom-com which toured the UK in 2022 and 2023. He is also the author of two books.

  1. Watched the very first performance of this show at the Wimbledon Fringe and truly enjoyed it! This was basically three shows (musical, drag act and “extreme” makeover) neatly tied together in an one-hour package! Loved the songs, the comraderie between the three characters and Ben’s “final” transformation right at the end. Extra kudos for making great use of the stage layout and the tongue-in-cheek (meta) jokes at certain props (given this was a fringe production) – but I won’t spoil it further for others. You’ve got to watch it to experience the inside jokes that we got to appreciate during this first run. Would highly recommend, even if just to have a good laugh and to be dazzled by the sequins (and there are lots!).

  2. After watching the Debut of Dragging your heels at the New Wimbledon theatre on Thursday night in the Studio, I can honestly say that this was the best Fringe show I have seen. The ensemble of 3 worked so well together and the on stage chemistry between them was excellent. You really believe they’ve all been friends for a long time. Especially between the main character Ben (Terry Geo) and his best friend Callum (Tafadzwa Madubeko) To pull this off within the first 10 minutes of a one hour show comes down to the exceptional Writing skills of Terry Geo. The musical numbers were all perfectly placed and carried the story forward in a skilled way that made the audience understand the plight of each character. They were so well written and the musical compositions for each song were all skilfully done.

The drag performer in the show, Tammy scowls (Dolly Diamond) plays the part like the pro that she is. Her adlibbed lines about the heat in the Studio theatre on the night and reading the audience for filth added so much to the show and kept the laughter coming throughout. The transformation she performs towards the end of the show is nothing short of genius given the time she had to do it in. By the end of the show and the final musical number, the audience were on their feet clapping along to the song and cheering.

The show is funny, witty, emotional and full of sequins and camp fun throughout. If you see only one fringe show this summer. Make sure it’s Dragging Your Heels when it has its full run at the Camden peoples theatre during Camden fringe from 19th August until 23rd August.

We went to the opening performance of Dragging Your Heels at Wimbledon Theatre. It was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We didn’t want it to end!!

  5. I just saw the first performance and it was fantastic. The cast delivers a powerful, engaging story that’s funny.
The show strikes a great balance between light-hearted moments and emotional depth.
Dragging Your Heels is a touching and unforgettable play.

  6. What a great evening we had at Dragging Your Heels! Loved that it was a musical, as well as full of comedy and with a good story to follow. We laughed out loud throughout and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

  7. I was lucky to get to see the first performance of ‘Dragging your heals’ at the New Wimbledon theatre. I am so impressed by the cast, the writing and the performances. It was great to laugh and experience the show close up – it felt intimate and I was totally engaged. Highly recommended – don’t miss the chance to see it!

  8. A brilliantly funny and upbeat show, brimming with humour, positivity and a little bit of filth thrown in for good measure. A lovely story amongst the laughs, and some belting songs, ‘Tomorrow’s not guaranteed’ a favourite. The show within a show with Tammy Scowls is hilarious and well worth the ticket price alone before you even build in the play and musical. Terry made a great lead and has a beautiful singing voice which added a touch of soulfulness to the show, so it ticked boxes on many levels. Strong recommend.

  9. This is a joyful show celebrating love and friendship, and the liberating power of drag. It’s both funny and heartwarming with great performances from the 3 characters. There were many laugh-out-loud moments, especially with Tammy’s brilliant interactions with the audience. Can a builder become a drag queen? Yes, he can! Do go and see it if you get the chance.
