Happy Pride Month!

Hello gorgeous sapiens!

It’s Pride Month which means thirty days of colour all around the world. Even now, I love seeing the rainbow flag – I guess that’s why I painted one on our living room wall as a landscape scene! If you haven’t seen it, I’ll attach a picture for you.

I’ve been working incredibly hard on my play these past few months. Everything stopped while we were renovating the house and it was difficult to make the switch back to writing at first. But as always, once I started, I couldn’t stop – sometimes working until 1am. Now my script has been read by my amazing beta readers, I finished the final edit yesterday and had my first read-through last night. It runs for just over 51 minutes, which is perfect for my 55-minute slot. It gives me breathing space and time for audience interaction.

Blink and You’ll Miss It is a (I so want to put “an” there) LGBT+ dark comedy with lots of heart and emotion. It’s a story I’ve had brewing inside of me for a while and needed to share with the world. It’s a one-man-show performed by me. I have a lot of acting credits to my name, but actually haven’t been on stage for more than 15 years. I won’t lie, I am nervous about stepping back onto the boards again. Thankfully, now I’ve received the feedback from people I know and trust will always give me their honest thoughts, I feel extremely confident in the script and know it will be an amazing show. I honestly believe this is my greatest work to date. Tickets are on sale now: www.RefractedWorld.com/theatre

Putting on your own theatre show is costly, especially in two theatres at different ends of the country. The accommodation in Edinburgh alone is costing just under £3000 for the 11 days we’re there and that was one of the cheapest places we could find. We had to go with a rented apartment as staying in a hotel would mean eating out for every meal, which would have cost a fortune.

I set up a Patreon account back in February to help fund my show as I knew it was going to cost of lot of money, but I’ve not promoted it at all. Every time I want to, I get scared and don’t. I always feel really weird asking for money – even though I’m giving something back to my patrons. I hate money – I guess that’s why I’ve never had any and I’ve done way too much work for free. I’m sure some people wouldn’t mind, but I don’t want anyone to feel pressured into it or that I’m just after their money. As time is running out to find the funds, I feel like I have to start promoting it. If you would like to join my Patreon the link is below. There’s some really cool Merch as well which even I would love to get my hands on (don’t know how that works for me though tbh) and this would really help fund my show and future projects. But please don’t feel any pressure to do so. Money is tight for most of us and I always find a way, one-way or another. 😊

Thanks for sticking with me and listening to my ramblings. (I definitely use my blog as an extended Twitter posts to connect with you all.) I hope you have a wonderful Pride Month (it’s also my birthday month – so I really love June) and I’ll catch up with you soon.
